Resort Description
When you combine length of season, snowfall, lodging possibilities, ease of access and intangibles such as a heli ski outfitter operating on campus, and there may not be a better place in the U.S. for a ski vacation. Snowbird gets 500 inches a year on 2,500 acres spanning more than 3,200 feet. The terrain offers up a little bit of everything, from beginner runs on Chickadee to sunny cruisers in Mineral Basin to the resorts signature steeps in the Cirque. The resort is consistently open into May, and on good years will operate into July. After the ski area closes, Snowbird allows backcountry skiing and snowboarding from their sight-seeing summer trams for as long as they snow remains.
The ’Bird shares a boundary with Alta and offers a joint pass to skiers, expanding the resort acreage to 4,500. If that’s not enough, there are backcountry gates providing access out of bounds, and Wasatch Powderbird Guides is headquartered just up the road.
The Cliff Lodge is a deluxe ski-in, ski-out hotel with two pools and a spa, and the resort also offers different styles of lodging in the Inn at Snowbird and the Iron Blossom. Cocktails and dinner are available at the Aerie, upstairs in the Cliff. El Chanate offers Mexican food on the first floor of the Cliff, and the Steak Pit is the place for meat and potatoes in the Tram Plaza. The Tram Club has the latest hours of any drinking establishment in Little Cottonwood.
Located just 45 minutes from Salt Lake City International, Snowbird, like all of the Salt Lake City resorts, offers unparalleled ease of access for air travellers.
