Resort Description

Canyons Resort has quietly become Utah’s largest ski resort, boasting 4,000 acres of skiable terrain spread over nine peaks. Add to that a 355-inch annual blanket of the “Greatest Snow on Earth” over 3,190 vertical feet and you have one of Utah’s best kept secrets in the heart of its most authentic and vibrant ski town. With diverse terrain ranging from big bowls to tight, steep tree lines, adventure-seekers have plenty to sink their powder fangs into, while those looking to capitalize on corduroy and sun have plenty of gentler options off of the Tombstone and Dreamscape lifts.

Canyons’ unique integration of lift-serviced sidecountry has allowed skier’s to enjoy a backcountry experience while still skiing to an inbounds base. Routes off of the Ninety-Nine 90 Express and the Murdock Express are most popular and offer a solid amount of vertical, but be aware that these runs are not maintained and are for experts equipped with proper avalanche gear and knowledge.

Perhaps the most underrated of the resorts offerings are its terrain parks. Canyons’ six parks and two halfpipes feature some of the most creative offerings in freeskiing and snowboarding today. Transitions Terrain Park, the largest at the resort has a remarkable natural flow and empties out to the Saddleback Express, allowing for smooth, easy, and generally empty laps all day.

Since the beginning though, Canyons has been about more than just the skiing. 35 minutes from Salt Lake City International Airport, the resort features several lodging options including the Waldorf Astoria, Grand Summit Hotel, and Sundial Lodge. For grubbers and sudsers, on-mountain options like Red Tail Grill and Murdock’s are prime, while nearby Kimball Junction offers endless dining options for all ages.
