Resort Description
Whistler Blackcomb is a rare convergence in North America of everything good in skiing and snowboarding. Not one massive peak, but two, each with an entire resort’s worth of skiable terrain, an average of 470 inches of snow a year, world-reknowned terrain parks, legitimate big mountain terrain, world class events, and an vibrant night life all combine to make Whistler Blackcomb the kingpin of North American ski resorts.
With an average of 470 inches a year, Whistler doesn’t want for snow, and both mountains have the terrain to explore. Spanky’s ladder on Blackcomb is favorite for powder hounds, and Couloir Extreme offers fun cliff lines. On Whistler on powder days most of the action takes place on the Peak Chair, both for skiing and riding, as well as spectating. The famous Air Jordan cliff is visible from the lift line and always offers a show on deep days.
Whistler was one of the first resorts to offer terrain parks and they are still ahead of the class. The resort offers seven different parks shared among both mountains, which are connected by the iconic and record-breaking Peak to Peak gondola. But don't think you need to be a ripper to hang at Whistler Blackcomb. With 8,100 skiable acres between the two mountains, options for any skier or rider abound.
Whistler Village is a city unto itself, with lodging options from budget hotel rooms to five-star slopeside hotels such as the Westin and the Pan American. Dining options are too plentiful to name here, and the night life is bustling. Events such as the World Ski and Snowboard Festival, a 10-day affair with ski and snowboard contests, live music, and exhibitions such as the Pro Photographer Showdown, pack thousands into the village square.
